Elder abuse continues to be an egregious problem persisting throughout the nation, especially for cognitively impaired and high acuity seniors. Senior living has a role and a responsibility to help educate caregivers, residents, and their families about signs of the different kinds of elder abuse and diligently work to prevent it. For 13 years, she served as director of a prosecutor-based comprehensive victim services program in Charleston, S.C.; she also developed the S.C. State Crime Victim Ombudsman Program. In 1994, she joined the National Center for Victims of Crime as Director of Victim Services and Training. In 2002, she became a senior director with Justice Solutions, a national nonprofit providing training and technical assistance and public policy work on crime victim and justice issues.
